2008 Commitee On Aging Annual Meeting


On the evening of February 1, 2008, the SCV Committee on Aging held their 32 nd Annual Meeting. This year’s theme was Keeping the Intergenerational Covenent, celebrating the influence of individual character that extends from generation to generation. The business of the committee was briefly conducted, and then the honors and awards got underway.

The following individuals were honored:


1. Brothers of the Masonic Lodge of the Old West #813 for donation use of their Friendly Valley Lodge for our satellite congregate meals.

2. Jill Bondy for volunteerism extraordinaire.

3. Amelia Reitzel, City of Santa Clarita, and Rosalind Wayman, Los Angeles County, for outstanding governmental support.

4. John “Jack” Thomas for more than a decade of volunteerism; he earned the “title” of “Ambassador & Chief Bottle Washer of Friendly Valley.”

5. Al Scullen and grandson Darren Saltonstall. Decades of volunteerism and devotion to this center by Al, 98, and many years of devotion to his grandfather by providing transportation by Darren.

6. Rena Reed, our 12-year-old volunteer who accompanies her grandfather to the center, and keeps herself busy helping us out.

7. Keith Curry, for advocacy for the disabled in our community.

8. Director’s Award: Carl Goldman of KHTS for leadership in organizing the Disaster Coalition.

Special awards were given in memory of Bea Flatz and Chuck and Dottie Belcher for leaving a financial legacy to the Center to benefit their peers and future seniors.

JUNE
Southland Association of Realtors/Santa Clarita Branch held their 21st Annual Golf Tournament benefiting our Senior Center.


OCTOBER
Director of Volunteers Robin Clough welcomes two volunteers from the Dominican Republic;
Lidia Polanco (left) and Carmen De Fabian (right).


NOVEMBER
Hart Park and the Lions Club hosted our Volunteer Thank You Picnic.
Mayor Marsha McLean presented certificates of appreciation.
